Covid Repayment Window: “Pay now or face the consequences.”

As Chancellor Rachel Reeves said: “we want our money back.” The UK Government has opened a no-questions-asked voluntary repayment window for Covid-era funds you weren’t entitled to or didn’t need.

Deadline: December 2025
Use the window to repay and reduce enforcement risk.

What’s covered?

  • Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme (Furlough)
  • Bounce Back Loans (BBLS)
  • Support grants paid during restrictions
  • Eat Out to Help Out scheme
“Our message to those who still owe Covid era money is simple – pay now, clear your conscience, or face the consequences.”
— Tom Hayhoe, Covid Counter-Fraud Commissioner (Sept 2025)

How to make a voluntary repayment

  1. Review any Covid-era funds you received and identify amounts to repay.
  2. Go to the official GOV.UK page and follow the steps for your scheme.
  3. Keep your repayment confirmation for records.
